If you are lucky enough to travel to Tibet in the future, know that you will be well fed. Here are some recommendations for places to eat and drink.

Dunya - 100 Beijing Dong Lu, a 5 minute walk from the Barkhor, on the main street. Great location with great food at all times. Local and Western staff, and always busy. Bar upstairs too. They offer hearty breakfast options and good coffee too! http://www.shigatsetravels.com/dunya/

The Summit Cafe - No.1 Danjielin Road, in a courtyard off the shopping street. http://www.thetibetsummitcafe.com/index3.htm Great coffee, sweets and the best wifi we found in Lhasa! Nice place for a break, to talk with other travelers and share coffee with a monk.

Kyichu Hotel & Restaurant - No.149 Beijing East Road, 7 minute walk from the Barkhor. It is a quiet place with a courtyard away from the busy street. Take an afternoon tea or coffee here, or a meal too. Various dishes. The hotel is a great stay too. 10 minutes to Potala in one direction - 10 minutes to Jokhang in the other direction. http://www.hotelkyichu.com/

Mandala Restaurant, also called New Mandala - 31 South Barkhor Street, across from the Jokhang. Seating inside or on the rooftop with views of the Barkhor. It is a tourist place, recommended and the food is good. Tibetan, Nepali, Indian and Western dishes.

Lhasa Kitchen - No.3 Minchi Khang Easet Road, near the Jokhang and Barkhor Market. Nice views if you have a table by the window. A busy place so reserve or go early. Various dishes and the food is good.
