STEP for US Citizens

The Consulate General of the U.S. in Shenyang is encouraging U.S. citizens to enroll in the STEP - Smart Traveler Enrollment Program.  Having your contact information helps them contact you in the event of an emergency.  You can also update STEP info when you travel.  

Through enrollment, they will have your local cell phone number, which allows them to use text messaging for important announcements and in an emergency.  While internet and cell service might be intermittent in emergencies, texts will cue up and be delivered as possible.  This is something learned through the earthquake/tsunami/reactor failure in Japan.
